What’s the best move?

Helping my brother sort out his 2020 GSX-S1000 before he gets an ECU tune. He's swapping the exhaust and ditching the cat but his bike already has a booster plug installed. Should we pull it off before the remap or is it fine to leave it on until after? Would it affect the tuning process

Yeah, pull the booster plug out before the tune. That thing tricks the ECU by faking cooler air temps for the mix to be richer. But bottomline is, once you're doing a proper ECU remap, you want clean data that hasn't been messed with. Like literally that's the only way you can "tune" properly. If you don't yank it out, that's just gonna mess with the tuning baselines. I guess that's one way to look at it.

Makes sense. Getting the cleanest possible data for the ECU tune is key. The booster plug skews air temp readings, so pulling it beforehand keeps the remap accurate.

Did you end up getting the tune done yet? If you're still weighing options, BT Moto and ECUWEST both offer remaps that account for decat setups and smooth out throttle response across the rev range. Some tuners also adjust ignition dwell and gear-based fuel maps, which can really wake up the bike. If you've already flashed it, curious how it's running now with the new exhaust.

Here's a quick update. We got the new exhaust fitted and the cat removed last month. The booster plug is gone, following the advice from this thread. My brother is ready for the final step, the ECU tune. Your tuner reco's are very timely.

He's aiming to get the ECU flashed in the next week or 2. Is there a general preference between BT Moto and ECUWEST for the GSX-S1000? The mention of gear-based fuel maps is interesting. Is that a standard part of a performance flash or an option we should specifically request?

I will post a follow-up once it's all done and he's had a chance to test it out.
