My GSX S1000 is that matte gray color which was attractive to me but now I want to make some changes. Has anyone managed to repaing the fairings at home or I'll need to take it to a pro?

well, a proper matte finish is hard to do it at home. cause it requires tons of prep and a clean space. Any dust or unevenness shows up. if you want a flawless, factory like finish, go pro.

I saw a guy who got lucky just by using rattle cans, and it can happen!
But as @wyckham66, thorough cleaning, extensive sanding, applying plastic-specific primer multiple thin coats followed by a matte clear coat are all key steps!
Also, each step needs adequate drying time.
But if you're looking for a showroom-quality finish, a professional is probably the way to go.

True! You can have some luck with spray cans, but the secret to a strong finish is all in the prep, cleaning, sanding, priming, applying thin coats, and ensuring everything dries well. For perfect results, pros still win.
